The evenings have been very calm the past few days, and the construction crew left early today. We have had a nice peaceful evening and the temps are mild.
Had to chase this guy away from the dining room window this morning. They've knocked windows out at the hotel. One season a ram took out three windows in the breezeway They see their own reflection in the glass and bam.
Here is another shot from the construction. Without a bridge it looks odd huh?
Yesterday was warm and very calm, so we went out and were lucky and saw some moose. Around 7ish last night the wind picked up drastically, the weather report said that it would reach 40 to 50 mph gusts for Babb. So I bet we are getting some even stronger than that. This morning we went to the hotel to pick up some tools to winterize the other chalet, and as soon as we walked out the door this huge ram came running by. Also as you can see, walking the foot bridge was interesting and very wet.
Well it was finally time to say goodbye to Larry, We will miss our last neighbor, but we will see ya in the spring.
The bridge deck has finally been removed. They cut the sections with a saw and drilled holes for chains to go through and just pulled it apart. Needless to say it's been really noisy around here, they usually start early and leave late because they are way behind schedule. I don't think they know how lucky they've been with the weather being relatively nice this October.
We took a drive up to the Port of Piegan today, Chief Mountain looks a little blurry from the falling snow.
We also explored Swiftcurrent valley, and walked around at Lake Sherburne.
We just returned from our short vacation to Billings . We visited Rebecca's parents, celebrated her moms birthday and had a great time. When we returned it was all windy and rainy and getting colder, the mountains are all getting snow. Needless to say the Bridge workers are having a hard time getting anything done. Larry will be leaving tomorrow so we will winterize the other chalet in the morning, and send him on his way. It's been strange to watch everyone come in this year, and to watch them all leave.
Well, we decided to go fishing again this morning, and go farther down to the second waterfall. We took the road that goes along the creek because it's the easiest way to get to that particular spot. I was fly fishing and Rebecca had a regular rod and reel so she went a few yards down from me to a deeper spot. After trying for a while with no luck at all, I was less into it, and I could tell she was also. So she made her way back up near me and we were talking. I looked over and just a few feet away comes the momma bear and her two cubs that we posted about earlier. I said "Oh s#$@." I am sure that's the first time she saw us too because she jumped a little and started moving away down the rocks a lot faster, almost leaving her cubs with us. I was thinking man she is going to remember those fuzzy little guys and come and kick our butts, but they quickly started catching up with her. After they were out of sight we just stood there laughing with our bear spray in our hands.
The internet has been very slow the past few days, so this is the first time we have been able to post anything. We just decided to put up a few random pics.
We have to take our trash over to the hotel every few days and put it in the trash room. This is a good time to walk around and take some pictures. Today it is a little chilly and the higher peaks are getting some snow.
We went out for a drive to Swiftcurrent Motor Inn earlier today. About halfway there we noticed some bears up on Altyn peak, so we stopped to watch and in just a few minutes they were right down at the road. The little guys seem to stay together and mom hangs back watching. We always see more wildlife after the tourist season winds down.
After work today we noticed a moose eating in the lake across from the hotel. After watching her for a little while we saw a couple more walk out and go into the water. Then after a minute we noticed two more, for a total of five moose feeding in the same area!
The sheep are on the move again and they seem somewhat confused by the bridge construction, their migration path is right near the hotel. Now they are hanging around the chalet more than usual, and that makes me wonder what path they used before the bridge was built..... Probably just walked across the rocks above the falls.
Here are a few shots of a walk we took yesterday. The hotel is dark in many areas even in midday, due to the shutters that are on all of the lower level windows.
The bridge is being removed and replaced so we thought we would start out with a few pics of the progress. The weather has been windy and the crane operators are really feeling it. even with all the difficulties the crew seems to be happy to be working in such a beautiful place.
Here is a nice shot of our path to work everyday.
Home sweet construction site.
Imagine operating one of these cranes in 60 mph wind gusts.
